Special Mission for Strengthening Democracy in Haiti
I. Introduction
The incumbent reports to the Chief of Mission. The primary
purpose of the position is to provide advice on political developments.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for the following:
Monitor political issues/developments in Haiti or relating
to Haiti.
Mindful of the mandate of the OAS SM, provide political
advice as necessary to the Chief of Mission as well as the members of the
various Pillars of the Special Mission.
Analyse political events and trends affecting the political
situation, recommend appropriate strategies and action for the Special Mission
to deal with issues.
Draft assessment papers, reports for the Permanent Council
of the General Secretariat, Secretary General, Chief of Mission, draft briefing
papers, talking points, statements, speeches, meeting notes, etc.
Draft funding proposals and reports for the donor community
as required.
Develop and maintain contact with Haitian authorities,
political parties, civil society, electoral officials, NGOs, and the
international community.
Represent the OAS Special Mission at meetings, seminars and
conferences.
Other duties as required
III. Qualifications
Education
An advanced university degree in
international relations, political science, law, social sciences or a related
field of study.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of
progressively responsible experience in international relations, development,
human rights at national and/or international level is required. Previous
experience with an international organization would be an asset.
Language
Fluency in French. Knowledge of
English, Spanish and Haitian Creole a definite advantage.
Competencies
The incumbent should possess excellent report writing and
computer skills. Ability to work individually or in a
team in a multicultural environment is a must.
